FFO – I-84: Troutdale Interchange (Marine Drive)
Start Date: Spring 2014
End Date: Fall 2016
Owner: Oregon Department of Transportation
This project will improve freight mobility for an important industrial and regional distribution hub that includes the Port of Portland’s Troutdale Reynolds Industrial Park, a large Fed Ex Distribution Center, Troutdale Airport and a line of the Union Pacific Railroad. The project consists of removing two existing structures on I-84 over Marine Drive and constructing a single new East/West bound structure using staged construction. The new bridge will be a 130′ span that is 103′ wide and constructed of segmental haunched prestressed tub girders on can pile foundations. Roadwork consists of raising and re-aligning I-84, stone column ground improvements, as well as partial re-alignment of Marine Drive and ramps. Project also involves new ramp signals, illumination, guardrail, landscaping, and asphalt paving as well as new sign bridges.
Factoid: Because the Portland area serves as a major gateway to international trade, the region’s percentage of total employment in the transportation, distribution and logistics sector ranks as one of the highest in the nation.
