I-70 Genessee Bike Path
Start Date: October 2015
End Date: May2016
As General Contractor Hamilton completed this project providing the missing link to a complete off-highway bike route along I-70 between Denver and Glenwood Springs. The bike path connects the Genessee and Evergreen Parkway exits of I-70 and ultimately eliminates the need for cyclists traveling on US 40 to ride on
the shoulder of the interstate giving cyclists a safer route to travel through the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Our work included the construction of a multi-purpose path and pedestrian bridge, as well as MSE retaining walls, concrete barrier forming and pouring, guardrail and sign installation, and landscaping.
The project area cut through Denver-owned Genessee Park, a portion of which is the Buffalo Overlook, home to the city’s buffalo herd. Most of the trail is on land owned by the City and County of Denver, starting just west of the Genessee exit near the Buffalo Herd Overlook which required very close coordination with all stakeholders in order to minimize impacts. Our team held weekly progress and schedule meetings with CDOT and Denver Parks to ensure all stakeholders were well informed and at the table. We coordinated and oversaw all traffic staging and MHT’s, as well as coordinated and scheduled utility work. We also worked with CDOT to assist with Jefferson County Permitting requirements.
