US101 Cape Creek Bridge Rehabilitation
Start Date: September 2013
End Date: May 2014
Hamilton was selected by the Oregon Dept. of Transportation to renovate the historic Cape Creek Bridge located near famous Heceta Head lighthouse on the Oregon Coast. As part of the process, Hamilton replaced the old bridge railing with precast, reinforced concrete rail elements that replicate the look of the original but meet current day standards for pedestrian and vehicle safety. The rail replacement along with concrete repair and cathodic protection on the remaining structure will provide Oregonians and visitors many more years to enjoy the coliseum-like architecture of the bridge.
Project highlight: Rather than pulverize the old decorative railing, Hamilton carefully flat sawed, removed and donated it to Eugene, Oregon-based BRING! Recycling at no cost. Not only did this preserve an important piece of Oregon architectural history, but diverted tons of waste from the landfill, and provided BRING! a popular local non-profit, with a decorative item for resale that supports their mission of re-use and purposing.
