US30 Burnt River & UPRR Bridge Replacement
Baker County, Oregon
Start Date: Spring 2012
End Date: Summer 2012
This ODOT bridge removal and replacement project, located north of Ontario, Oregon on Highway US 30, was a “Rapid Construct” funded project. It involved removal of two bridge spans (one concrete and one steel) and replacement with a 162’x32′ pre-stressed, single girder span (using Bulb T 90’s) and precast panel deck. The structure crosses the Burnt River and an active track of the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR). The project also involved building 9,500 sq. ft. of MSE retaining walls and related roadwork. Due to the remote location of the project, concrete was supplied by a mobile batch plant set up near the site.
Interesting Project Element: In order to ensure the foundation stability of the new bridge, Hamilton will be filling a cave at the site.
