The existing bridges are cracked and have inadequate capacity to carry Permit live loads. Several of the existing bridges are too narrow and do not allow for enough shoulder width.
Interesting Factoid: The Neil Creek Road Bridge is in a mountainous section of Interstate-5 on the approach to the Siskiyou Summit (the tallest summit on Interstate 5). Due to the adverse weather conditions in the winter, the contract mandates a six month shut down from November to April.
